Two weeks ago, it was not my intent to create a blog. I knew other people who did it, but that just wasn’t for me! But it seemed that the Lord had different plans, and He laid on my heart a desire to remind people of His great work in the nation we know today as the United States of America.
250 years ago on July 4th of 1776, fifty-six men gathered in Independence Hall to pass a document that would change the world as they knew it. They were doctors, farmers, lawyers, educators, and merchants, all coming from different backgrounds and gathering for one purpose that God had placed on their hearts: Liberty. Liberty was a far-off dream at the time, but these men knew that had to change. They were not content with the tyranny of their government, and they did not view liberty and freedom as a luxury, but a responsibility, one given by the Creator. They were not ready to let that responsibility slip through their fingertips.
So they acted, and composed a document that shook Parliament and reached to the very foundation of their beliefs.
“When a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government.” – the Declaration of Independence
On August 2nd of the same year, these men signed the Declaration of Independence, putting everything they held dear at stake and changing the course of America. So as we go through the Anniversary of this great nation, may we remember the men that risked their lives for our freedom and our God whose hand was so evident in the building of our country. These men were not called to lives of ease. They were not called to lives of wealth or fame. They were men called to liberty.
